I really like livin in the Ozarks and feedin all my critters and ridin my Harley. On our property is an old 1890cabin I spent the last 2 1/2 years restorin. All my friends and I love to have parties and drink beer in our old cabin. 13 people lived in this 18x20 log cabin and Alma was the youngest. 30 years ago Alma came to our house and told us of the stories about livin in the cabin and the hard times they had. Her dad died when she was 4 and her mother raised the kids on her own. Alma passed away 3 years ago. We named the cabin after her. One story she told was not far from the cabin is a spring that kept their food cold. She said the best part of the day was when her brothers and sisters ran down to the spring, the first one there got the first sip of cold buttermilk. After hearing that story and knowing of the hard times and that the cold buttermilk was the highlight of their day, I swore that I would never ever complain again about anything! I'm blessed and I know it and everyday I look out my window on a hill overlooking Bullshoals Lake and the 35 mile vista beyond that. I am feeding 20 plus deer,11 wild turkeys, 8 racoons, dozens of squirrels and rabbits, hundreds of birds, some that eat out of my hand, and 3 weiner dogs. So when things get you down think of Alma and the buttermilk and things will be better.
